Hey CERT Team and CERT enthusiasts.
October is here and we are gearing up to have an exceptionally busy month bursting with Thrilling Trainings, Spine-tingling Flu Clinics, ghoulish Meetings, perhaps a few supernatural team building fun things, and of course lots of Halloween Candy.
To start off the month we will be holding a new member meet and greet ONLINE on Wednesday October 6th at 6pm. If you want a link to join this informal and short conference to check out what CERT does or want to welcome (or spook) new members email CBarker@boch-cert.org.
Don’t miss our monthly Team Meeting on Thursday October 7th, in Harwich where we will roll out a few new things, go over last months exciting recruiting efforts, and I will bring candy. We have a few new tricks and treats in store for this month, including a fun little community project that includes pumpkins we are looking for help with.
Brewster and Chatham will have us on needles and pins when we help them with their Flu Clinics on October 15th(B), October 19th(C), and again on October 28th(C). Volunteer requests have gone out to the team and if you want to join our enchanted endeavors on any of those dates send a message to Corey via mystical owl or email, whichever is more convenient.
I am fiendishly excited for for our Traffic Control and Safety Training coming up on October 20th sponsored and headed by the Harwich Police Department and their traffic safety officer. We are going to do the monster mashup on all the important aspects of moving traffic and then go over spooky situations where safety might be a concern. Big shout out to Harwich for giving us all this opportunity. Keep an eye or two or even three for the email to RSVP for this new training. Since we’ve grown, space is becoming limited on training events.
We’ve had a bit of treachery befall our calendar, as Chatham has requested volunteers for their Town Meeting on October 23rd which was also our New/Provisional Member practical training date. Unfortunately leadership worked the numbers and we could not adequately staff both events and provide the genuinely good training our new members deserve. Instead we have decided to move the training to October 30th, same times and same place. I honestly think it will be more fun during the search and rescue training if members dress as goblins…however, this idea was not moved to a vote at the meeting.
So, regarding the October 30th New/Provisional member training, I am reminding Safety Officer Trainees that your presence was requested to help with the training. Also, any team member who wants to refresh on the basics again is absolutely welcome to join us on that day. It’s going to be a unearthly good time.
Thanks everyone who came out to the Brewster Town Meeting and Recruiting event, as well as the new team of Safety Officer Trainees who took the time to train over the next few months. I’m excited that we now have a group of people specifically trained to look out for our safety when we are volunteering. We are growing as an organization and I’m proud of the people who are standing up with us to take on new kinds of leadership positions. It’s a boo-tiful thing.
